The Studio
Smoke & Ember Studios is a design practice focused on the relationship between material, form, and use, informed by a foundation in engineering and a reverence for craft.
Each piece is developed through a process of reduction — refining structure, proportion, and surface until only what is essential remains. The work exists between object and sculpture, where function is present, but never dominant.
Produced in small volumes or as singular works, each piece reflects a controlled exploration of material and intent.
Trevor Moran
Founder & Principal Designer
Trevor Moran is a wood artist and designer based in Edmonton, Alberta.
Holding a degree in engineering and drawing from nearly two decades of woodworking experience, his work is shaped by a balance of precision and intuition — combining a systems-oriented approach with a sensitivity to material behavior and industrial design.
Forms are developed through iteration, focusing on proportion, transition, and surface refinement.
His work has received recognition at the Northern Alberta Woodcarvers Association Annual Show and the Calgary Stampede
Western Lifestyles Competition.
Rather than decoration, the work relies on structure and restraint to create presence.
Material. Context. Intent.
Every piece is shaped by three forces:
Material
The inherent properties of the wood guide the form. Grain, density, and response to carving inform every decision.
Context
Objects are designed to exist within a space. Scale, light, and placement are considered as part of the work.
Intent
Each piece is developed with clarity of purpose. Nothing is added without reason. Nothing remains without justification.
